Cameron Mackintosh's epic musical is back! Based on Victor Hugo's novel, this sweeping epic is one of the most popular musicals in history, a tale of love and revolution that draws audiences in time and time again. Its classic score, written by Herbert Kretzmer and Claude-Michel Schonberg, includes the timeless 'I Dreamed A Dream', 'One Day More' and 'Do You Hear the People Sing'.
Nominated for three Tony Awards, this latest Broadway production is a more than worthy chapter in Les Miserables' long history. It debuted at the Imperial Theatre in 2014 and ran for two years, drawing huge acclaim for its stripped down storytelling, which jettisons some of the bloat attached to previous productions, and the atmospheric video projections that lend the show a hugely cinematic backdrop.
WHAT IS LES MISERABLES ABOUT?
Two years after the Revolution of 1830, France is on the brink of violence once again. Dismayed that one king has been replaced by another, a group of rebels are plotting to overthrow the monarchy and lay claim to the throne for the common people.
Against this backdrop of simmering rebellion, we follow the story of Jean Valjean, an escaped convict who manages to build a new life for himself and his adopted daughter Cosette. Yet his new found happiness cannot last for long, because the unrelenting police inspector Javert, who has been hunting Valjean for two decades, is close on his tail. As Valjean's past finally catches up with him, all of the characters are swept up in the chaos that breaks out on Paris 'streets, in an epic story of thwarted love, forgiveness and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

So go. Be transported. Get caught up in the tidal wave of emotion. Cry if you are inclined. Hum the music for days on end. And then, if you love that feeling, go again when it comes back. Which, eventually, it will.

Almost perfect
Love this musical so much! The singing, acting, and sets were fantastic. Just an awesome show!
I saw this in Birmingham at the BJCC and 3 technical things could improve an already fantastic performance.
First, the sound could have been louder. I was in the third row of the middle tier and heard all the movements around me over the music. My church has louder music than this show did. Secondly, the sets were rather dark. Where I was seated, the actors faces could not be discerned due to the distance, so good lighting was more imperative to see all movements. Some night scenes were just too dark.
And third, a big screen to show the actors faces would add a lot to appreciating the drama, as probably half the audience couldn't see the faces due to the distance and relied on their voices and body movements to convey this.
Otherwise, fantastic performance. The flow from set to set was ingenious. I'd love to see Javert's fall again and figure out how it was done. Thoroughly enjoyed it! ... Read more

Captivating and surprising
I have always loved Les Miserables and have been fortunate to see it a few times on stage. The 2024 production at The STRAZ theater in Tampa Florida on June 11th was superb! I was in awe of the stage set up and changing backdrop. How the characters could melt into the cleverly lit backdrop or appear as if stepping through fog was breathtaking.
I found I was captivated by Daniel Gerrard Bittner's performance as Feuilly and wanted to watch what he would do next to enhance the scene.
The whole cast and production left me in chills and had me weeping at my favorite part "empty chairs at empty tables". I want to go back and watch it again just as it is. ... Read more

Excellent and beyond. Flawless. From the sound, to the lighting to the orchestra to the cast everything was exceptional and just seemed to complement each other from beginning to end. This was my second time seeing les mis. The first 30 years ago in Montreal. It was amazing back then but outdid itself today!
